Garden Clearance in Tisbury

Tisbury is a large village of around 2,253 people at the 2011 census, sitting about thirteen miles west of Salisbury in the upper Nadder valley, and acting as the centre for the Vale of Wardour communities around it.

It is a valley settlement, which in practice means sloping approaches and a historic core with lanes that were not laid out for a long-wheelbase van. We plan the loading route before lifting anything, and where a van cannot get close we allow for the carry rather than discovering it on the day.

Tisbury was a quarrying village on a serious scale — by 1846 there were forty quarries in the parish, with the industry most active into the early twentieth century. The local stone is all over the older housing stock, and those properties tend to bring thick walls, narrow staircases and small doorways, which is usually what decides how furniture and appliances actually come out.

The village has its own station on the West of England Main Line, which makes it a commuter settlement as well as a rural one. That mix means we see both end-of-tenancy turnarounds and long-accumulated household clearances here, and the two need quite different planning.
